Review
Please keep in mind Wuthering Waves is a skill-based game and each character has a different playstyle, difficulty level and even special tricks and combos. Wuthering Waves is also a team based game and it's only by combining both these factors to the highest level a character can reach optimal performance.
Part of 2 of the best non-quickswap teams in the game and the best quickswap team in the game (plays into both Fusion Burst and Tune Strain);
Has lots of viable weapon alternatives in Fusion Burst mode;
Constant off-field grouping making single-target oriented DPSes excel in AoE scenarios;
Fast rotation, high damage, strong buffs and utility. Has all the markings of a top tier secondary buffer/damage dealer.
Only plays into 2 team compositions, both limited in Support options. If you don’t have either team, she has no flexibility to speak of;
Significantly more Signature weapon-dependent if used in Tune Strain mode, becomes a pretty recommended pick-up;
Uses 3 different Echo Sets in her 3 most important team options. Even her own flexibility is limited by needing multiple builds in each.
Denia is a 5-star Fusion Rectifier Hybrid character who plays into the Fusion Burst and Tune Strain team archetypes. By either focusing on strong Fusion Burst application and related team-wide buffs, or an even stronger buffing profile for Tune Strain hypercarries depending on her mode, she deals a lot of damage, rotates quickly, and has a highly specialized but equally as powerful buffing profile, featuring constant off-field grouping as well for maximal performance in both AoE and single-target situations in the teams she plays in. Let’s figure out how all of it works so we can squeeze the maximum performance out of her combat gameplay.
Denia plays into either Tune Strain or Fusion Burst depending on her Resonance Mode (configurable at will before combat). They modify the following aspects of her kit:
Her “Etched Colors” Inherent Skill (can either increase party-wide Fusion DMG or Tune Break Boost);
Most of the attacks in her kit will either apply 1 stack of Fusion Burst or Tune Strain - Shifting and reset the duration of Tune Strain - Interfered;
In Tune Strain mode, she may fill each target’s Tune Break gauge by 50% of the max once per enemy per battle;
Her Outro skill changes to either amplify party-wide Fusion Burst DMG or general DMG Amplification (15 to 40% depending on whether the buffed character can apply Tune Strain or not);
In Tune Strain mode, she obtains standard Tune Strain - Interfered response like Lynae, Mornye or Luuk.
Some Sequences are also impacted, but we will only cover her S0 kit here.
Other than her Resonance Mode, Denia’s in-game combat focus will be on accessing her second Ultimate, “Final Act - Breakdown Form”. Speaking of which, she has 2 forms she may switch between via her Ultimates: Stagecraft Form and Breakdown Form. In practice, Stagecraft Form only serves to fill the gauge Breakdown Form will utilize in order to increase damage of attacks in that form as well as the speed at which she can access her Second Ultimate.
For this purpose, Denia has several Forte resources that we won’t spend too much time detailing as her standard rotations cover all of Denia’s bases in both Resonance Modes and in both casual play and quickswap, so we will only focus on the moves her standard rotation will utilize, as follows;
Her Intro in Stagecraft Form refills a bit of “Void Particle” Forte gauge and Concerto, the same applies for her Stagecraft Form Skill and Basic 4 (accessed immediately after Intro);
She then consumes it via her Basic Attacks in Breakdown Form (after switching to it via her Ultimate) to access her 2 Skills;
Casting both Breakdown Form skills will allow her to perform her second Ultimate, placing an Erosion Field that constantly spins on the ground and applies Fusion Burst or Tune Strain while grouping enemies periodically, and she is then free to switch out.
The summary above essentially constitutes the main concepts of Denia’s rotation that will grant the following buffs to the team:
Fusion Burst application (via a lot of her attacks and periodically off-field via her second Ultimate), constant off-field grouping (via second Ultimate), Fusion Burst DMG Amplification (via Outro) and Fusion DMG Bonus (via Echo Set and Inherent Skill) in Fusion Burst mode;
Tune Strain application and duration refresh (via a lot of her attacks and periodically off-field via her Second Ultimate), constant off-field grouping (via second Ultimate), general DMG Amplification significantly increased if the target ally applies Tune Strain (via Outro) and Tune Break Boost (and some ATK% via Echo set effects and Inherent Skill).
Additionally, her Signature weapon can also boost the ATK of the team if acquired!
Denia has significant personal damage, a very specialized and equally capable buffing profile, and a fast rotation. All of these factors undeniably make her the prime Secondary choice for the teams that she plays in. However, this comes at a cost: specialization.
Denia is highly specialized towards Tune Strain and Fusion Burst teams, since most of her buffs are tailored to characters of only that archetype. While her personal DMG, general DMG Amplification capability on Outro (even if weakened) and her generalist buffs via Echo sets like Moonlit Clouds and her Signature weapon definitely exist and could make you think she has a strong general use case, she’s nowhere near comparable to a proper generalist character like Lynae, or a less specialized support like Iuno for Heavy Attacks. This is her main (and realistically, only) flaw, aside from needing to change Echo sets in between each team which can definitely cause build complications if you want to lean into her (albeit small) team flexibility.
As of her release, all Denia has access to is Fusion Burst teams with Aemeath and Tune Strain teams with Luuk Herssen, only giving her a total of 2 teams that she can play in with no certainty of additional teams coming in the future. However, the 2 teams that she does play in are stupidly strong in the current meta, work well in both single-target and AoE thanks to her, and overall if you wish have either DPS but they lack a proper premium team, and you wish to pick up a strong power upgrade to either your Aemeath or Luuk, Denia is the perfect opportunity to do this.
In conclusion, while Denia is un”denia”bly (I swear I’m funny) a highly specialized secondary buffer and damage dealer character, in the teams that she is specialized for, she’s by all accounts ideal and will make your premium Fusion Burst and Tune Strain DPS characters unleash their full potential and be top tier provided you have the correct teammates to surround them.

The percentages show the performance of the weapon based on calculations, but in some cases, some weapons might provide additional QOL that can't be quantified and it would push that weapon ahead of others in the priority (and in those cases, we would put that weapon higher).

Best generalist option in Fusion Burst mode, grants Denia with 20% total Fusion Burst DMG increase for a small personal damage gain and most importantly a total of 37% Fusion DMG Bonus (including Main Echo) to the incoming character via Outro. Best mix of personal damage and buffing generally.
Below you can find Main Echo options:
100.00%
Best option in Tune Strain mode, gives a 10% self-ATK buff on the 2-piece and also a 20 Tune Break Boost buff team-wide which comes in handy to maximize on DMG Taken effects from Tune Strain.
Below you can find Main Echo options:
Best choice for Denia in the Aemeath + Lupa team, with Lupa on Moonlit Clouds, in order to give the highest possible buffs to Aemeath via Lupa's Outro while maximizing on party-wide buffing and Denia's personal DMG.
Below you can find Main Echo options:
Substats: Energy Regen (Until Satisfied) > CRIT Rate = CRIT DMG > Liberation DMG% ≥ ATK% > ATK
Liberation DMG can provide higher benefit in Tune Strain teams due to a higher reliance on Liberation DMG (absence of Fusion Burst DMG), but otherwise, ATK% is equal/slightly stronger.
All recommended endgame stats portray a fairly good quality endgame build as a goal to aim for on most characters. However, don’t treat this as an end-all-be-all, and more of a suggestion.
All stat recommendations are given at S0 for 5-stars, S6 for 4-stars, and free characters (unless specified otherwise), based on total stats in the in-game stat-screen with the character out of combat but also active in the party (and hence some buffs may or may not apply). Any other precision may be directly specified. If not specified, Energy Regen requirements are estimated in the character’s best team.

Gameplay and teams
Note: Some ability names written n the rotations have been shortened for ease of comprehension.
The focus of Denia’s kit is to generate 100 points of Void Particle to then consume it in Breakdown Form by switching into it via her Ultimate and casting Basic Attacks, to finally cast her 2 Skills and second Ultimate and then Outro. It makes her rotation look like this:
Echo Timing: At any point in the rotation (Fusion Burst with Reminiscence: Denia or Lioness of Glory) or Swap Cancelled right before switching out following Ultimate: Breakdown via Outro (Tune Strain with Voidwing Moth).
Intro
Basic: Stagecraft 4 (Cancel animation endlag via Skill)

Dash
Basic: Breakdown 1
Basic: Breakdown 2 (Cancel animation endlag via Skill)
Skill: Banish 1
Skill: Banish 2 (Cancel animation instantly via Ultimate)
Ultimate: Breakdown
Outro
This uses Denia’s potential for animation cancels to the fullest and ensures a fast rotation that accomplishes all of her goals. However, Denia can rotate easier than this by simply doing 4 Basic Attacks without any Dash Cancels in Breakdown Form. This loses a bit of time, but is much easier to perform and applies some extra instances of Tune Strain or Fusion Burst depending oin her mode.
However, Denia can also, in the Aemeath + Lupa team, be the first character to rotate in the team. Were that to be the case, she’d need to generate extra Forte points to still have her Breakdown Form enhanced like so:
Used once only in Aemeath + Lupa + Denia (or any team where Denia rotates first)
Basic: Stagecraft 1 (Cancel animation endlag via Skill)
Skill: Phantom Bubble (Cancel animation instantly via Dash)
Dash
Basic: Stagecraft 1

Dash
Basic: Breakdown 1
Basic: Breakdown 2 (Cancel animation endlag via Skill)
Skill: Banish 1
Skill: Banish 2 (Cancel animation instantly via Ultimate)
Ultimate: Breakdown
Outro
Denia’s S3 makes her able to go directly into Breakdown Form upon switching into the field. This means that she can go Intro → Ultimate in the standard rotation, or start directly with her Ultimate on her Opener rotation. This can save 1 to 2.7s depending on the rotation used (Loop/Opener).
Additionally, Denia is free to utilize quickswaps during her Breakdown Form basics. This means you can swap out of - for example - her Breakdown Form Basic 2, and switch back into her later to cast Basic 3 and 4 and finish the rotation that way. She can also cast Stagecraft Form Basic Attacks to generate Forte ahead of time, overall making her rotations short, flexible and quickswap-friendly. Experiment depending on your team and feel free to see what works best!
Calculations
Don't use the damage output calculations as an indication on who is worth pulling or investing as those are just simulations and in day-to-day gameplay there's a lot variables and also the skill of the player is important - if you can't consistently perform the character's rotation, their damage will suffer.
As usual, don't compare the numbers between characters - especially between Main DPS and Hybrids as they fulfill different roles in the team.
The numbers below show the character's DPS (Damage Per Second) and DMG (total damage done). When selecting the rotations we prioritized achieving 100 Concerto as fast as possible and once that condition was fulfilled, we focused on maximizing the damage output. As or if new and more optimal rotations are found, we'll update the characters calculations as needed. Listed character calculations are done without buffs or any damage contribution from teammates (full solo). They only include what the character, their Weapon, Echo and gear are capable of during their ideal Burst or Concerto rotation when starting with their Intro and Resonance Liberation available.
Do note that DPS and DMG aren't perfect metrics for a character's individual value and should be taken with a grain of salt. Anything pertaining a character's relevance in the meta is addressed in our Review and Tier List, which the numbers below shouldn't be used for as an end-all-be-all to. Instead, DPS and DMG are good metrics for a character's sequence value and comparison between an individual character's different rotations. We recommend using those metrics for such purposes.
