Review
Yang is the definition of ‘good everywhere, but never the best anywhere’. He mixes multiple powerful buffs, as well as one of the most sought-after debuffing tools - namely Dispel.
Let's go over his skills:
His S1 gives him some Turn meter increase if he crits, which is great as his skills want to be cycled as often as possible.
His S2 offers both [ATK+] and [CRIT RATE+] to the whole team, which is a significant damage increase in the early-game.
His S3 is another strong tool, with the attack split in 2 sets of 3 hits, from him and his dog. When Yang crits, his entire team gets a bit of Turn meter, and every time his pet companion crits it has a chance to Dispel one Buff from the enemy, which means up to 3 Dispels.
The reason Yang is hard to properly utilize is that his S2 and S3 feel in the wrong order for Auto. Indeed, Yang needs to crit to activate the effects of his S3 but doesn’t want to build Crit as a Support, so it makes sense that he’d use his S2 before his S3, right?
However, the end-game challenges where Yang is supposed to shine, like Aurora, have extremely powerful Buffs like immunity from the first turn, and these enemies often outspeed you. In that case, you absolutely want Yang to Dispel the Buff even if it means giving your team less Damage, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for now, which limits his use in Auto and instead requires you to manually use his Skill before turning on the Auto.
In PVP, Yang can both Dispel and increase the Turn meter of your team in one Skill, giving him some potential in offensive setups. Still, his good but not incredible SPD holds him back as an opener compared to the likes of Lily or Mio.
Offers a lot of generally useful tools.
Cycles his turns and his skills quickly.
His skill levels are only good at the highest tiers, which makes it very expensive and inefficient to invest in him early on.
AI doesn’t really do what we want it to do.
Build
For Early Game build tips when it comes to what modules and Shells to use before you start farming Red rarity, check our dedicated guide:
1
Widely used and incredibly potent all-around supportive option, granting a 25% gauge boost on use as well as [SPD+] boost with 100% uptime. It also deals decent damage when used. Possesses most of the best supportive matrixes, further adding to its flexibility and wide use cases. Loses most of its value when used in teams that already have a team member granting the [SPD+] buff with good uptime.
The go-to Shell for Yang that allows him to cycle faster in longer battles. If you already have a Speed buffer in your team though, the value of Jackal Guard drops quite a bit, but since Timeweave is present there, it's still worth using in longer PVE battles.
Best Module Sets:
1
Allows the wearer to cheat death once every 6 turns. Upon dying, they will instead recover 60% HP and enter a special state, becoming immune to turn meter reductions, debuffs, buffs, and also gaining 200% increased DEF until the start of their next turn. A powerful option for keeping vulnerable high-value units alive in PVP.
Best Module Sets:
2
A PVP-focused shell option offering a triple cleanse and up to 75% Effect RES for 2 turns at turn start with a 4-turn cooldown. A solid option for characters who need to ensure they aren’t taken out of the fight by stuns, freezes, or other debilitating effects on their opening turn.
Best Module Sets:
3
A strong personal sustain option for characters, granting them a 25% max HP restore and 35% gauge boost upon taking hits within a single turn greater than 25% of their max HP (on a 2-turn cooldown). Has situational use in PVE but shines the most in PVP, granting your teams extra healing and gauge boost on a semi-frequent cooldown.
Best Module Sets:
Speed, CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK%
For Yang, try to get as much spd sub stats as possible and after that decides if your want him to be more in a support role or in a sub dps role. In case u decided to be more support go HP or DEF on main stat with good spd sub stats. In case DPS get as much Crit Rate close to 70% as possible with good speed.
