Tips and Tricks
Here is our collection of Tips and Tricks for Sword x Staff, split into different categories. We will keep updating the guide as we find out new things that are worth mentioning!
Before you start
Guilds are per Server. Servers have a 5000 player cap and are closed once it’s reached. Multiple Servers will be available at launch, so coordinate with your friends from the start if you want to play together. Server merges will happen later on to keep each Server active, but it’s best not to wait!
Don’t Reroll if you have a group to play with, you’d hate to be left stranded on a different server for the sake of one or two extra skills.
Tips related to major Account Level Unlocks
Level 15 - Join a Guild as soon as you unlock it, since you get extra resources from it, as well as more Stat buffs and a Guild Boss for more rewards.
Vendor Booth unlocks at level 18 - even F2P should refresh it a few times and buy every material there (that’s why you use stamina on Rolla).
On Day 3, before going to sleep, try to unlock the second Continent (level 40 required) and clear the first zone. The Level 19 Blessing Statue more than triples your base EXP gain and should be the first of the new zone if you’ve cleared everything you could in Verdant Glade.
Level 39 - Companions unlock - They give a lot of stats. You can level them equally using the Gifts you gathered so far, but make sure to focus on one Companion of each gift type in the future, focusing on those who give Crit or Block!
Level 40 - Auction House unlocks, but don’t be in a rush to buy anything there. Gear is replaced really fast at this stage.
Level 51 - Fantomons (Pets) unlock and are yet another massive jump in Total Power (TP). You can freely spend your accumulated pulls and start working on gathering Summon Crystals.
Don’t spread your Pet upgrade mats too thin; focus first on 1 Pet of each Role, as they use different resources.
Skills and Leveling Slots
Don’t be afraid to pull on skills on T1 - it’s the way to level your class, so you can advance to T2 and higher. In fact, you must pull skills until you fulfill the condition to advance to the next tier, and only after that can you save pulls.
For example, to progress from T1 to T2, you need to reach level 18 of the T1 class.
Speaking of skills, you don’t actually level them up; what you do instead is level the slots where you put each skill, so don’t be afraid to level them up.
The same thing applies to Gear - the slot is leveled up, so you can quickly switch to a higher CP Gear.
Level Skill and Gear slots equally. You get a bigger power gain that way, compared to trying to level one more than others. This changes at higher account levels, where Gear gives way more Power.
Even then, never overspend resources on Battle Essence or Treats; you can buy them with Rolla and use 1-2 refreshes of the Material Dungeon with Dawnium every day.
Using Stamina and Dawnium
The best way to use Stamina early on is on Rolla - it’s used for a lot of things, including buying raw resources you need in other places and refreshing the Daily Shop.
Picking Herbs doesn't cost Stamina - so pick them up and craft Healing Potions at base after combining them with Water (bought at the market). A lot of them.
Use 2/2/2/2 daily attempts at the material dungeons if you’re F2P. It’s totally worth the Dawnium.
Light Spenders - 4/2/2/4 < This means 4 refreshes on Raw Ore and Chrono Sand!
Mid Spenders can go 4/4/4/4.
Big Spenders can go 6/6/6/6.
Leviathans can go 8/6/8/8.
Strategies for efficiency
Picking a leveling strategy for your Cart and sticking to it is critical. Consistency is key and will end up making a massive difference in the later halves of each Season, with players who focused on nothing in particular being left in the dust.
As a rule of thumb, keep your focused resources at a level 20-30% higher than the rest throughout the Season (Whales can switch more easily to compete for the Leaderboard).
Check the beginner guide for priority for the Cart materials.
In the Grand Treasure Hunt event, don’t spend your currency every week. Instead, save for 1 week, then spend it in another - this way you can buy the Relics and other great stuff locked behind Level 5 (check dedicated guide for more info).
Spenders can ignore the advice, obviously.
General Tips and Advice
You can switch a class at any time if you don’t like it - check the Class guide for more info.
But it's best to wait for level 100 before you do so, because then you can switch the class without any penalties.
In Home, you can click on small Animals scattered around the base and receive random rewards: Resources, Skill Shards, etc. They respawn randomly, too, so check back from time to time.
The Equipment from the Cart/Adventure (within the limits of the Zones when applicable) and the amount of resources you get by spending Stamina/using Destiny Fruits depends on your Account Level.
When using Destiny Fruits, the spot on the map you’re on doesn’t matter - you don’t have to look for some sweet secret spot.
You can get Legendary events from the Destiny Fruits, such as vendors who offer Skills, Relics, and more at the cost of Dawnium. It’s generally worth it to buy the Legendary offers.
Relics
At first, equip Relics with high Base stats to get a little more bonus out of them. Every Relic you own gives its basic buffs even sitting in your collection!
The element of the Relics you’re aiming for to get/invest more in should match the element of your class, as it will help improve your damage (check the Class/Roles guide for info about elements used by your class).
Unless you’re certain of the Element you want to focus on, save up your Elemental Relic pulls as they’re one of the best ways to complete higher rarity sets of specific Elements.
Gameplay / Progress related Tips
Don’t sleep on Knockback! Every Character on the battlefield has specific movement and range. Knocking an enemy back before following up with a back dash and vice versa can put you far enough to dodge their strongest skills. This can even force enemies to move into Damage Zones multiple times.
Sometimes, a stage may look impossible until you find the correct setup and good RNG to cheese through it. This requires knowledge of the skill set you have, the Fantomon you own, the Food you use, and, of course, whether luck is on your side.
For example, this writer once passed a stage at 1.75m power requirement on 1.37m power by abusing the setup
Repelling Wind (75% chance to Push enemies at Melee range away) +
Radiant Sear (Blind enemies, 50% chance to miss the next attack) +
Void Bubble (grants Dodge, 50% chance to immune the next incoming damage).
You will often not manage to get S-rank in Daily Dungeons when you first unlock them. Getting B-A ranks at first is already good, and we advise against using extra entries if you can’t get at least an A-rating.
Cinder Ridge’s Dungeon unlocks very early in the second zone, even before switching to T2. The Dungeon is balanced around a well-built party of T2 players, hence why it’s so difficult early on to get far in it.
Open your Minimap frequently/go back to previous zones after a powerup! During your progress through a new Zone, you’ll very often reach places that act like hard walls, either due to Account Level requirements or because the gatekeeping enemy is way too strong. When you get stronger and don’t know where else to go, revisit old places and unlock more zones to push through.
