Review
100% Action Advance on her Ultimate,
Easy to play,
Excellent damage output,
SP efficient thanks to her Enhanced Basic ATK,
Joint ATK procs on-hit effects twice (including Robin's Ultimate),
Massive self buffs to SPD and ATK.
Absurd Energy cost for Ultimate at 350,
Damage outside of Ultimate is unimpressive,
Best teammates are all premium characters,
Heavily reliant on Sunday for the best performance (she is significantly less powerful without him),
Gains solutions to problems and a qualitative increase in power from Eidolon 1 and her Signature.
Aglaea is a powerful new Remembrance unit. She is an entirely CRIT-focused DPS character with her own unique summoned entity. Aglaea can become one of the fastest-acting characters during combat and has mechanics to increase the damage of herself and her summon based on their SPD values as well. Her extremely expensive 350 Energy cost Ultimate further enhances herself and her summon to become lightning-fast and lets her attack at a ridiculous rate. While complex on the surface and in team building, fortunately, Aglaea is actually not hard to play.
Aglaea is the second ever Remembrance unit, and like the Remembrance Trailblazer, has her own summoned Memosprite, called Garmentmaker. Garmentmaker similarly has their own stats, abilities, and place in the action order. Aglaea's Talent describes the stat sharing; Garmentmaker has an initial SPD equal to 35% of Aglaea's SPD, and its Max HP is equal to 66% of Aglaea's Max HP plus 720. The SPD value sounds extremely low, but this will make sense soon.
The second part of Aglaea's Talent is the Seam Stitch effect. When Garmentmaker is on the field, Aglaea's attacks inflict Seam Stitch onto enemies, making Garmentmaker prioritise attacking them. In addition to this, when Aglaea attacks enemies with Seam Stitch she will deal additional Lightning DMG equal to 30% of her ATK, though do note that only one enemy can have Seam Stitch at a time.
On its turn, Garmentmaker will deal up to 110% ATK to one enemy and 66% ATK to adjacent targets. This attack restores 10 Energy for Aglaea. When Garmentmaker attacks an enemy with the aforementioned Seam Stitch state, Garmentmaker will increase its SPD by 55. Not 55%, no, 55 flat. This stacks up to 6 times. Yeah, Garmentmaker goes from having a laughable SPD that even Lightning-Lord scoffs at, to vibrating the very air molecules around them. Garmentmaker's Talent lets them have an additional 330 SPD.
When initially summoned, Garmentmaker will immediately get to act, having their action advanced by 100%. When Garmentmaker disappears, either by enemy mauling or their own internal desire to spontaneously and violently explode, they will restore an extra 20 Energy for Aglaea and lose all speed stacks.
Now, back to Aglaea. Her Skill will summon Garmentmaker if they are absent, and if Garmentmaker is present already, they will be healed by 50% of their Max HP. This Skill only restores 20 Energy instead of the expected 30. After using this Skill, if Garment Maker is summoned, Aglaea will immediately Action Advance herself by 100%. This ability is only really worth using if Garment Maker isn’t already on the field.
Aglaea's Ultimate is the focal point of her entire kit. If Garmentmaker isn't present, they are summoned upon using the Ultimate, and if they're already present, their HP is fully restored. Aglaea fully Action Advances herself and enters the Supreme Stance state. This allows Aglaea to increase her own SPD based on the number of stacks that Garmentmaker has obtained, up to 15% SPD increase per stack; this means if Garmentmaker has increased their SPD the maximum number of times, Aglaea will gain a 90% SPD boost. This one is unambiguously a percentage increase.
In addition to this, Aglaea's Skill will be locked, and her Basic ATK will get Enhanced, becoming a Joint ATK. This has both Aglaea and her summon Garmentmaker attack in the same action (These attacks use their individual stats and count as each character separately attacking), dealing 200% of Aglaea's ATK and 200% of Garmentmaker's ATK to a single enemy, and then 90% of Aglaea's ATK and 90% Garmentmakers ATK to adjacent enemies. This cannot recover Skill points.
During the Supreme Stance state, Garmentmaker is immune to Crowd Control, and a countdown will appear in the Action Order with a set SPD of 100. When the countdown is over, the Supreme Stance state will end and Garmentmaker will clock out, head home, self-destruct and as a result wipe their speed stacks requiring you to start again. However, if you use Aglaea's Ultimate again before the countdown is over, the countdown will be reset, Garment Maker will stick around and keep their speed stacks rolling.
This allows Aglaea and Garmentmaker to deal astounding Blast damage very easily at ridiculous speeds which will see enemies perishing at a breakneck pace. What could be the cost for such power? Well... It's 350 Energy. Yeah, Aglaea's Ultimate costs a staggering 350 Energy, far exceeding the previous highest of 240.
The combination of Aglaea’s vastly increased potency during Ultimate and the fact she loses momentum directly after it ends unsurprisingly positions her as an incredibly ultimate-reliant character. Aglaea wants her Ultimate as fast as possible, but would in fact prefer even more Energy than just that to be able to chain multiple ultimates together to maintain her momentum — something that is possible but quite challenging.
Aglaea's Bonus Ability traces improve functionality further. A2 will make it so that during Supreme Stance, Aglaea and Garmentmaker have their ATK increased by 720% of Aglaea's SPD plus 360% of Garmentmaker's SPD. This allows you to convert the massive SPD increases into a direct damage increase.
A4 will allow Garmentmaker to retain 1 stack of their SPD boost when they are resummoned, should they disappear, making ramping back up after an ultimate a little less punishing. Lastly, A6 will automatically set Aglaea's Energy to 50% of her Max at the start of a battle if Aglaea's Energy is below 50% when you enter combat.
It's honestly a lot of words for 'Press Ultimate and go to town', but understanding the intricacies can help to build better teams. As far as enhanced states go, Supreme Stance most definitely lives up to its name, and with the ability to Action Advance Aglaea, you can end up getting a lot of attacks off before enemies even really have a chance to act, something that is becoming increasingly more valuable as more and more enemies show up that have gimmicks that scream 'stop me or suffer'.
Fortunately, ramping-up is also aided by the fact the Joint ATK counts as Garmentmaker's ATK as well, meaning you can gain the SPD stacks relatively quickly, especially since Garmentmaker will still be making attacks on their own turns.
Sadly unlike the firefull flyshiny bearer of the previous highest Max Energy, Aglaea cannot simply restore large percentages of her total Energy, so while the incredible SPD of Aglaea and Garmentmaker is most assuredly a selling point, it is also something borne out of necessity — without the very frequent attacks, you'd never even come close to using her Ultimate in anything considered a 'reasonable timeframe'.
Even still, it's not enough alone. Perhaps if you're defeating fodder enemies often you'll maybe have a decent Energy economy, but realistically Aglaea is just not playable without outside assistance. To that end, attempting to utilise Aglaea without at least some form of Energy regeneration is equivalent to pushing a boulder up a hill. The best way to aid her in this endeavour is to use percentage-based restores like those from Huohuo and Sunday, as both of those will restore 70 Energy for Aglaea with their respective Ultimates or action advances to allow for more attacks and as a result energy, Sunday is best in this department but Robin, Remembrance MC and to a lesser extent Bronya can also fill the role.
Of particular note with Robin is the fact that Aglaea's extreme SPD values let her proc Robin's Ultimate very frequently and consistently. This is especially true during the Supreme Stance state, as the Joint ATK actually does count as two separate attacks for the purposes of proccing effects — such as Robin's Ultimate (or Feixiao's Talent if you're into that).
It is absolutely no exaggeration to say that Aglaea is completely team-reliant in order to function and, not only that, she must be built specifically with her team's action order and abilities in mind. This means paying attention to speed tuning and ensuring any action advances you use are helping Aglaea to either access her Ultimate faster, or to land more Joint attacks during its limited window.
For Eidolons, her E1 will make the enemy with Seam Stitch take 15% more DMG, and will regenerate 20 Energy for Aglaea whenever she or Garmentmaker attack this target. E2 will let Aglaea and Garmentmaker ignore 14% DEF when they attack, stacking up to 3 times and lasting until any other unit uses an ability. E4 will increase the SPD stack limit for Garmentmaker by 1, and will grant a stack whenever Aglaea herself attacks as well. Lastly E6 will grant 20% Lightning RES PEN during Supreme Stance, and will grant additional DMG dealt based on the SPD of either Aglaea or Garmentmaker; 160/240/320 SPD will grant 10%/30%/60% respectively, and to their respective SPD holders.
With what we know about Aglaea and her Energy addiction, it should come as no surprise that with an E1 like this, it’s one of the best she could ask for; it fixes a lot of her major issues and reliance on specific teams, while also allowing her to chain together ultimates far more frequently, and this helps in maintaining her speed stacks for gigantic potential damage gains.
Aglaea is a very 'all or nothing' type of character, both in terms of her combat performance, and also her team building. All of her favoured support units are limited 5 stars that are heavily contested with other characters and even specific team archetypes. The ideal case is wanting both of the Charmony siblings, as well as preferring to also have the frightened foxian Judge, and this doesn't exactly scream 'accessibility' now does it?
When you do have all the constituent parts, Aglaea's performance skyrockets to incredible levels, and Aglaea at her best is one of the best DPS units we've gotten so far. Some assembly is required before the intended function is achieved, but if you have the patience for it, you will be adequately rewarded.
Honkai: Star Rail is a game where team building matters most and while our tier list takes the optimal setup into account, a lot of characters can work and do well - even those ranked lower - when you invest into them. Also for story or lower difficulties of Simulated Universe, you don't need to worry about ratings and tiers. You can safely clear that content even with F2P characters as long as you build your team correctly.
Character at 5★ are rated at their Eidolon 0 with level 80 best in slot 4★ or 5★ Light Cone (including limited Light Cones, but at S1).
